Magpies & Peacocks, London Fashion Week AW19 – Re:ne(w) by René Garza For Magpies & Peacocks is founded on the concept that resource sustainability is the responsibility of every individual – being conscious of both our actions and their impact on our planet. As a visual artist and designer in many mediums, René Garza has a visceral and conceptual style, influenced by art, travel, minimalism, geometry, dark gothic and romanticism. Garza has exhibited his work at The Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC, HMAAC and the Texas Contemporary Art Fair in Houston, TX, and has an accomplished career as a fashion stylist with clients that include Naomi Campbell, John Legend and Alicia Keys. His exquisite design work with reclaimed textiles is freeform, allowing the fabric texture, drape and finite dimensions to inspire his direction and flow. René Garza for Magpies & Peacocks has shown at Fashion Scout for London Fashion week for three years in a row and has been featured in WWD and British Vogue. René Garza is a lead designer for Magpies & Peacocks and currently on the board of directors.
The 2018 Re:ne(w) by René Garza for Magpies & Peacocks collection “Impermanent Flora” showed at London Fashion Week with Fashion Scout in February 2018 – an avant-garde rainforest collection made entirely from waste textiles and up-cycled clothing – reinforcing the value of building a sustainable future for design; the importance of social responsibility, ethical sourcing and circular innovation; and the ramifications of post-consumer textiles in our landfills.
