Houston is an ever changing and dynamic city, and while the arts community here is strong, we know that as schools trade in their music and art classes in favor of sports and the funds they generate, the avenues for creativity lessen. Through our Arts Education and Artists in Nesting programs, and our long term partnerships with schools, arts and culture leaders and the fashion industry, we open the doors for students and creatives to expand their knowledge and their network in the community.
One $25 donation could:
help send our designers to our London Fashion Week runway show in February 2019 with Fashion Scout featuring zero-waste up-cycled sustainable collections created by local Houston designers. Magpies & Peacocks will be the only non-profit design house on the Fashion Scout runway which is the biggest Indie runway show of London Fashion Week.
partially fund the creation of a new sustainable clothing or accessory collection
help set up and fit out a sewing station for community members and emerging designers
fund one week of community sewing classes
help pay for all supplies needed for one emerging artist | designer in our Artist In Nesting program and partially fund our post consumer textile library
help employ one person from underserved community who has an interest in design
Magpies & Peacocks is run entirely on volunteer power, but we can’t continue our programs without contributions from those in the community to support our operations. We have diverted over 200,000 lbs of textiles from landfill! Help us continue to grow our own sustainable, circular economy and teach the next generations the power produced through creative thought.
