We collect, curate and reuse waste textiles – Keeping fashion out of landfill for creative reuse and to mitigate the environmental impact of textiles and apparel production on the planet.
We present waste as a resource – Supplying a post consumer textiles resource library to our creative team, and offering workshops and arts residences to increase the reuse of valuable waste materials.
We make up-cycled products from waste material – Working with our team of designers, makers and artists we create small batch products from that reclaimed material to help fund our programs.
We educate – Providing community workforce development programs and sustainability education for schools & colleges, savvying up consumers and designers, and providing a platform for innovation and action for industry change.
All the products we create start their lives as donated waste textiles, scraps, bolt ends or used clothing, either from partner organizations or from individuals cleaning out their closets. People are encouraged to make tax-deductible donations of anything from clothing and accessories through to broken, orphaned and tangled jewelry – in fact anything new, broken, inherited, re-gifted, ex-husband, vintage, or even just a-good-idea-at-the-time works for us! We also collect expired textile samples, leather off cuts, ends of fabric bolts, trimmings and abandoned dry cleaning apparel to form our raw material inventory.
Working with our team of artists and designers, we then turn those items into a marketable new products, the sale of which help support the organization to train and employ. Each piece carries a message about its material origin, its maker and our mission.
Do you have pieces you could donate? If you do, contact us via email at: info@magpiesandpeacocks.org and pass on the love!
